CompTIA Tech+ FC0-U71 Certification Overview

Greetings everybody. My name is Tech Gee and I want to welcome you all to my CompTIA Tech+ FC0-U71 course. The information that I will be presenting in this course is going to give you everything you need to know to successfully pass the CompTIA Tech+ exam, assuming you study properly.

According to CompTIA, the Tech+ exam is the cornerstone certification for those venturing into tech-related careers.  It provides a wide spectrum of foundational tech knowledge and hands-on skills, helping those interested in getting certified become confident and tech-savvy.

What Skills Will You Learn?

The CompTIA Tech+ exam will focus on 6 primary areas of study, which are also known as domains:

• (1.0)  IT Concepts & Terminology will make up 13% of the exam.
  • This domain mainly focuses on the comprehension of notational systems, illustrating the basics of computing and explaining the value of data and troubleshooting.
• (2.0) Infrastructure will make up 24% of the exam.
  • This domain will teach you how to set up & install common peripheral devices to a laptop/PC or secure a basic wireless network.
• (3.0) Applications & Software will make up 18% of the exam.
  • This domain will teach you how to manage applications software, understand the various components of an operating system and explain the purpose of methods of application architecture.
• (4.0) Software Development Concepts will make up 13% of the exam.
  • This domain will help you with comprehending programming language categories, interpreting logic, and understanding the purpose of programming concepts.
• (5.0) Database Fundamentals will make up 13% of the exam.
  • This domain will help you to be able to explain database concepts, structures, and purpose, as well as understanding methods used to interface with databases.
• (6.0) Security will make up 19% of the exam.
  • This domain will help you to understand a concept known as the CIA Triad, which stands for confidentiality, integrity, and availability as it relates to securing devices along with best practice methods.

Exam Details

The CompTIA Tech+ FC0-U71 exam was launched August 13, 2024.  At the time of this recording, CompTIA has not scheduled a retirement date for this exam, but normally 3 years after the launch of an exam is when you can expect CompTIA to officially retire a version of an exam.  The Tech+ exam has a maximum of 60 questions that will be presented in multiple choice format and you will have 60 minutes to complete the exam.  In order to pass the exam, you must score 650 points out of 900 points, which translates into you scoring a 72% to pass.  A candidate taking this exam does not need any prior IT experience and this exam is mostly designed for high school students and other non-IT professionals.  At the time of this recording, English is the only language this exam is administered in.  The company responsible for administering the test is Pearson VUE Testing Centers.  And finally, the cost of the CompTIA Tech+ exam has not been posted, but it will more than likely be around the price of the CompTIA IT Fundamentals exam, which at the time of this recording is $138 for an exam voucher.
