(1.0) General Security Concepts will make up 12% of the exam.
This domain will focus on key cybersecurity terminology and concepts up front to provide a foundation for security controls discussed throughout the exam.
(2.0) Threats, Vulnerabilities, & Mitigations will make up 22% of the exam.
This domain will focus on responding to common threats, cyberattacks, vulnerabilities, & security incidents and appropriate mitigation techniques to monitor and secure hybrid environments.
(3.0) Security Architecture will make up 18% of the exam.
This domain will focus on security implications of different architecture models, principles of securing enterprise infrastructure, and strategies to protect data.
(4.0) Security Operations will make up 28% of the exam.
This domain will focus on applying & enhancing security and vulnerability management techniques, as well as security implications of proper hardware, software, and data management.
(5.0) Security Program Management & Oversight will make up 20% of the exam.
This domain will focus on reporting and communicating skills required for Security+ job roles to governance, risk management, compliance, assessment, and security awareness.
CompTIA Security+ SY0-701 Exam Details
The CompTIA Security+ SY0-701, which is the latest & greatest exam version, was launched November 7, 2023.
At the time of this posting, CompTIA has not scheduled a retirement date for this exam, but normally 3 years after the launch of an exam is when you can expect for that exam to be officially retired so they can begin introducing the latest version.
The exam has a maximum of 90 questions.
The questions are presented in multiple choice format and performance-based questions.
The exam has a 90-minute time limit.
In order to pass the CompTIA Security+ SY0-701 exam, you will need to score 750 out of a possible 900 points (83%) on the exam.
It is recommended by CompTIA that a candidate be CompTIA Network+ certified and have at least 2 years of experience working in a security/systems administrator job role.
The exam is available in English, with Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish to follow.
